Obtaining a Permit & Behind the Wheel Lessons
To obtain a driving permit through Hickory, schedule an appointment at either our Frenchtown or Hillsborough, NJ offices. Your child must be within a couple of weeks of their 16th birthday to make the appointment. We cannot purchase the permit until their 16th birthday.
Please see the addresses below for your reference:
1110 Harrison Street
Frenchtown, NJ 08825
856 US Highway 206 Bldg B Suite 13A
Mountainview Plaza
Hillsborough, NJ 08844
During the appointment, both the parent and the student must be present. Please note that Hickory collects a fee, which covers the cost of the permit, eye exam, written exam (if needed), and a set of red decals. To initiate the permit purchase, we require the following documentation:
- Your child’s ORIGINAL birth certificate or VALID passport
(as the MVC does not accept copies, we need to retain one of these documents for processing) - Social Security Card or Number
- Certificate stating that the written test was passed (if completed)
- Parent’s drivers license number
Hickory will take care of obtaining the permit on your behalf. It's important to note that parents are unable to purchase a permit for 16-year-olds; only driving schools can do so. However, a parent can purchase a permit for a 17-year-old.
Once Hickory obtains the permit, an instructor will be assigned for the mandatory 6 hours of lessons. The instructor will contact you to coordinate a schedule for the lessons, which are divided into separate sessions.
To initiate the process, kindly fill out the contact form, and we will reach out to you promptly.
